There isn't much that has not change since Covid struck in March 2020, including your park bag packing list.
Disney and Universal have been leaders in showing the world how to provide a safe experience for guests who are ready to travel. You will find social distancing markers, hand sanitizer, hand washing stations, and mask requirements....but there are still some items we recommend taking with you into the parks when you visit.
- Hand Sanitizer
You will find hand sanitizer throughout the resorts and parks, but it is helpful to have your own stash of germ gel to clean your hands on the go or for some extra sanitation. Make sure to use some extra germ gel before eating.
2. Extra Face Masks
We recommend taking at least 2 extra masks per person each park day. You may find you would like a fresh mask after a water ride, a rain storm, or if you get hot and sweaty (it is Florida, you know). It may be helpful to have different kinds of masks as well, as some masks are more comfortable and tolerable than others. Our personal favorites have been the new Disney masks and disposable ones.
3. Credit/Debit Card and Cash
Even if you usually use a credit card, make sure to have some cash on hand just in case. There have been times when systems have gone down temporarily and those with cash have had a much easier time navigating purchases. Touchless methods of payment are preferred (magic bands, app, credit cards), but have cash as a backup just in case.
4. Battery Pack for Phones
You likely will be using your cell phones quite a bit- photos, checking wait times, looking at park maps, joining virtual queues, mobile ordering food, checking in for dining reservations, etc. Be prepared for a recharge with a fully charged portable battery pack. Don't forget to charge it each night!
5. Snacks
Throw in a couple quick and easy snacks to hold you over between meals, especially if you are traveling with little ones. There is a plethora of delicious food and snacks available at both Disney World and Universal Orlando, but having something you can grab quickly in a snack emergency can be helpful. Remember, you need to be stationary to remove your mask to eat or drink.
6. Water
Water cups and filling stations can be limited, so make sure to bring some water with you into the park so you can stay hydrated. You can purchase water bottles at various snack and store locations, but save a few dollars and have some on hand.
7. Ziplock Bags
Left over food, extra masks (keep clean and used ones separate), phone for a water ride or rain storm- the uses for ziplock bags are endless! I always take a couple quart size bags with me.
8. Sanitizing Wipes
While team members are doing an excellent job with wiping down high touch surfaces, I prefer to bring some wipes with me to wipe down tables and chairs before eating. Parents of little ones, wipe down diaper changing stations too. I also use them to go over high touch surfaces at the resort for some extra peace of mind.
9. The App
Both Disney and Universal have an app for their guests. Now more than ever, the app will play a very important role in your vacation. You will want to check park hours, view park maps, mobile order food, check in for dining reservations, check wait times for attractions, secure your Rise of the Resistance boarding pass at Hollywood Studios, enter virtual queue for certain attractions, open the door to your room, scan park tickets, and more. Make sure you are familiar with navigating the app prior to your vacation.
10. Patience and Understanding
Things look different at the parks right now. But there is still so much magic to experience! Team Members and Cast Members are working hard to provide a fantastic and safe experience for guests. Sometimes that may mean doing things a little differently than in the past. Be patient and understanding, not only with employees, but also with other guests. Respect personal space (social distance please!). Enjoy the little moments and experiences, because they add up to a fantastic vacation and magical memories with your loved ones.
