Know what the moms REALLY want?

Whether you’re looking to treat your wife, partner, or own mother with time away this Mother’s Day, my biggest suggestion is to not necessarily focus on picking the perfect destination. It’s more about allowing the hardest working, most devoted person you know a stress-free escape where she can unplug, relax and enjoy herself. Not to set the bar low, but I know some moms who look forward to the peace and quiet of their bi-annual teeth cleaning. A simple but thoughtful getaway might be just the thing Mom doesn’t even realize she’s craving.

Here’s a few tips for making the gift of vacation a treat for mom.
**For best results, forward this email to your significant other and/or print and casually leave on their pillow.

Consider what kind of mom she is.
A mother of a 7-month-old craves something different than a grandmother of ten-year-old twins. For the former, an escape to a resort where she can score eight hours of uninterrupted sleep and a spa treatment will feel like winning the lottery. For a grandmother, a vacation with the littles will make her heart swell. Does she need a break from the kids, or will the kids make the vacation that much better? These are things to consider before planning.

Get in cahoots with her friends’ significant others.
There are a lot of moms who would love getting treated with a girls’ getaway. Why not call up some of her best friends’ significant others and see if you can arrange a fun escape? Maybe there’s a tropical resort with a spa that would be the perfect fit….or a mountain cabin with stargazing and horseback riding. The best part? If you get along with her friends' partners, you can all get together back home. You know, take the kids to the zoo, on a bike ride, or to a brewery. An even better suggestion: plan a trip to enjoy with a couple of her best friends AND their families too! Take the whole group; your buddies will appreciate you taking the reins to give their spouses the best Mother's Day gift ever. wink

If you give a trip, plan the trip.
“Paying” for something isn’t really the same as giving the gift of travel. Whether it’s a weekend away or a week-long adventure with the whole family, simply saying, “Yay! Take a vacation!” isn’t really cutting it. Work with your travel advisor (me!) to pick the destination, book the vacation package, and take care of the details. Trust me, your travel advisor will help you be the hero!  If the mom in your life is the kind of person who craves a little more control, you can present a couple vacation package options from which she can select.  Don't forget to take care of the details at home if needed, like arranging a pet sitter or babysitter.

This year our moms deserve to be appreciated, probably more now than ever before. What better way to show her that you see her endless devotion to and infinite love for the family than with a vacation to create memories with those she loves the most!  I would be honored to be a part of that gift…and I promise to make you look like a rockstar!
