Part of the Magic – Disney Cruise Line

Aboard the Disney Magic for
Marvel Day at Sea

I just returned from an amazing Disney Cruise Line vacation. I wanted to share a quick story about why Disney Cruise Line is so magical and special.

Don't get me wrong...there were lots of magical moments on our trip... and I will be sharing more soon! However, our server at dinner was PHENOMENAL! He did not know I was a travel agent; we were just normal guests on the cruise, like you and your family.

With rotational dining, you have the same wait staff each night. On our 5 night cruise, we had the pleasure of dining with our serving staff for 5 dinners and our last breakfast. Our head server's name was Oliver, from Bosnia. His assistance was Dwi, from Indonesia.

Oliver and Dwi knew our names within minutes of meeting us (and my girls all have double names, so that is not a small feat. We also had 2 friends with us, so we were a party of 7.) They knew what drinks we all liked after our first meal, and they had them ready for us when we arrived each night. They knew my youngest would order a salad with "lots of ranch dressing" and mac and cheese every night. She also asked if she could have whip cream and sprinkles on a brownie, and, despite it not being on the menu, oh my did they deliver!

Oliver taught my girls how to draw different characters and do magic tricks every night. He would perform several magic tricks for them...and then would take time to teach them how to do one of them and let them practice.

One night we got caught up watching a show on the pool deck and were late for dinner. He came and found us to make sure we were OK and ask if we still wanted to have our Marvel themed dinner, even though we were almost 45 mins late.

He shared stories, including how he met his wife working on a cruise ship, and then introduced us to her because she was working the same dining rotation. (We adored her too!)

Oliver came and found us to say hi and see how things were going at breakfast, when he must have spotted us from afar. He was working behind the scenes at Castaway Cay, Disney's private island, but came to check on us while we were eating lunch.

One evening he made pet mice out of cloth napkins for the girls. He named the mice Jose... and his twin cousin Jos-B (get it? Jos"A" and Jos"B")... and Paco. My children still giggle about their names. These were very active mice who jumped around. My girls took their pet mice back to our stateroom with us. Despite my youngest's best efforts, Jose started coming apart. The next night, Jose came back to dinner with us and Mr. Oliver fixed him right up.

He was THAT amazing. My kids cried when we said goodbye...and Rick and I teared up as well. He felt like part of our family.

Since our vacation ended, my kids have said million times that they miss Mr. Oliver. We may have booked another cruise on the Magic in hopes of reuniting with Oliver again soon! *wink*

This is Disney magic. This is why we will sail Disney Cruise Line over and over again. This is why I love sending clients to experience some of this magic too.
